Hong Kong must find advantageous position in national development plan: John Lee

Hong Kong should identify its โ€œadvantageous positioningโ€ within the national development blueprint and proactively reform and adapt to changes, Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu has said.

The city leader also said the 15th five-year period from 2026 to 2030, as outlined in the national blueprint, was a โ€œnew stageโ€ for implementing the โ€œone country, two systemsโ€ governing principle, and โ€œcrucialโ€ for Hong Kong to realise its transformation from stability to prosperity.

Leeโ€™s remarks on Monday follow a high-level meeting with top officials that he chaired to study the โ€œspiritโ€ of the fourth plenum of the Communist Partyโ€™s Central Committee.

The fourth plenum concluded on Thursday, with its core agenda centred on formulating the countryโ€™s 15th five-year plan for guiding development during the period.

In the communique concluding the plenum, the committee spoke about fostering the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macau, and advancing the peaceful development of relations across the Taiwan Strait as well as reunification.

In a social media post shared after the meeting attended by the cityโ€™s top three principal officials and ministers, Lee said that the plenum was of great significance, while Chinese President Xi Jinpingโ€™s work report and speech set clear instructions for advancing various tasks.
