The fight for American football in Europe

A major investor in a new American football league in Europe believes the time is right for a sustainable pan-European competition, despite a host of previous failures. David Gandler, who co-founded the sports streaming service Fubo, said he has personally invested "seven figures" in the European Football Alliance (EFA). The new league is planning to launch in May with sevenย teams, while a further two โ€” in London, also backed by Gandler, and in Milan โ€” are scheduled to join in 2027. "There's pent-up demand," Gandler told DW. "The only thing really missing around American football is structure. "I don't think I'll ever be let into the USA, at least not while Trump is in charge. And I'm fine with that." Ukaleq Slettemark did not shy away from her position, speaking with a smile. The 24-year-old Greenlandic biathlete will make her debut at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Wednesday, February 11, but she has already made several headlines. As Donald Trump repeatedly stated his intention to seize Greenland, the Nuuk native was among the most outspoken voices against the US president's threats. "You cannot have two cultures that are further from each other [between the US and Greenland]," the biathlete told Le Monde. "Our way of viewing the world is that we are part of nature... We don't exploit our nature... We don't damn value capitalism ...

This steady stream of visitors is united by a common goal as the sun sets: To watch the Olympic flame shine beneath the Arco della Pace, one of the city's many landmarks. "We came because we don't live very far away. We watch the competitions on TV, but the cauldron and the stands nearby are our family's weekend outing," said Maria Rossi, who had traveled by train from Lecco, 50 kilometers away, on Sunday with her two sons, aged seven and nine. She thoroughly enjoyed the four-minute ...

The next day, at the promised time, in another post, the ice dancer addressed his fans, as if he were revealing the next season of a hit television series. First came the photo, depicting a duo dressed in white, posing for the camera with piercing gazes. Cizeron was no longer accompanied by Gabriella Papadakis, with whom he had won five world titles and an Olympic gold medal in Beijing in 2022, but rather stood beside Laurence Fournier Beaudry, a 33-year-old Quรฉbรฉcois skater, his best friend. Then came the message itself, promising the union of "two stars destined to shine under the same sky." The...
