Mariah Angeliq is representing Miami more than ever.
The artist, known by fans as La Princesa de Miami (The Princess of Miami), has signed with Mr. 305 Records, the independent label founded by Pitbull, Billboard can announce exclusively on Thursday (Aug. 13).
โThis new chapter will allow fans to see a more personal and vulnerable side of Mariah, and Iโm thrilled that theyโll be able to connect with her on a deeper level through this music,โ said Barbara Rivas, head of label and artist development at Mr. 305 Records.
The new partnership between the singer โ who was born and raised in Miami to Puerto Rican and Cuban parents โ and the label, which has deep ties to the city, brings together two entities whose identities are rooted in Miamiโs culture. The deal arrives alongside the release of Angeliqโs new single, โA La Que Fui,โ in which she reflects on the experiences, relationships and decisions that shaped her.
โA La Que Fuiโ follows a string of milestones for Angeliq, whose 2019 breakout reggaeton hit โPerreitoโ was certified two-times platinum by the RIAA and peaked at No. 21 on Billboardโs Hot Latin Songs chart. One of the most prominent songs in her catalog is โEL MAKINON,โ on which she collaborated with Karol G.
With โA La Que Fui,โ Angeliq reflects on the new opportunities that come with letting go of what no longer serves you.
โโA La Que Fuiโ is a reminder that thereโs always an opportunity to start over. I had to say goodbye to many things to find a kind of peace I had never known before,โ said Angeliq in a statement.
