It is with decidedly mixed feelings that audiences approach season two of Netflix’s The Sandman.
It is somewhat ironic that after decades spent languishing in development hell – where it was repeatedly dismembered and reconfigured by an industry decidedly uncomfortable with The Sandman’s unwieldy and unconventional form – it would be Gaiman himself who would cause its premature termination.
Netflix is staggering the release of this second – and final – season. Six episodes drop this week, followed by five more on July 24, and a final bonus episode landing on July 31.
And that, at least for the foreseeable future, will be it for The Sandman, leaving more than half of Gaiman’s endlessly inventive source material untouched.
