K-pop star Taeil has been expelled from his group, NCT, after being indicted for sexual assault, music label SM Entertainment said.
Taeil, 30, (real name Moon Tae-il) is accused of sexually assaulting an intoxicated woman with acquaintances last June.
According to legal sources, the Seoul Central District Prosecutorsโ Officeโs Women and Childrenโs Crime Investigation Division 1 indicted Moon and two accomplices on February 28 on charges under the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, SM Entertainment said: โWe have recently confirmed that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offence.
โAfter investigating the facts of the matter, we recognised the severity of the situation and determined that it is no longer possible for Taeil to continue his activities with the team.
โFollowing discussions with Taeil, we have decided on his departure from the team. Taeil is currently cooperating fully with the police investigation, and we will provide further updates as the situation progresses. We sincerely apologise for the distress caused by our artist.โ
