Pope Francis in critical condition, requires oxygen and transfusions, Vatican says

Pope Francisโ€™ condition โ€œcontinues to be criticalโ€, the Vatican says, saying the 88-year-old was alert but had a respiratory attack that required โ€œhigh-flow oxygenโ€, and also blood transfusions.

โ€œThe Holy Fatherโ€™s condition continues to be critical, therefore, as explained yesterday, the Pope is not out of danger,โ€ the Vatican said in its regular early evening update, local time.

โ€œThis morning Pope Francis presented a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis, which also required the application of high-flow oxygen,โ€ it said.
